Prominently positioned on the cobbled high street in the heart of Rye, East Sussex, and just five minutes from the vast beach at Camber Sands, The George in Rye is a family-run, Grade II listed, four-star hotel and wedding venue. Dating back from 1575, it has become best known in recent years for its laid-back luxury style, welcoming atmosphere and fabulous food.

Celebrate in style...
Available on an exclusive or non-exclusive basis, it appeals to couples looking to create a sophisticated occasion with a relaxed house-party vibe. From intimate celebrations for 12, to receptions with all the trimmings for up to 120 guests, The George offers complete flexibility and prides itself on a friendly, personal approach. The hotel is a firm favourite with film companies and celebrities – George Clooney, Matt Damon, Helena Bonham-Carter and Kevin Costner are all amongst the former guests.

The elegant Georgian ballroom seats up to 120 people and boasts an original minstrels' gallery, chandeliers, large bay windows and silk hand-painted wallpaper. Adjacent to the Ballroom, the 17th century Benson room is ideal for intimate weddings, or can be used as an anteroom prior to the ballroom being unveiled. Both rooms are licensed for the wedding ceremony, or guests may wish to take advantage of the fact that Rye Town Hall is under a minute's walk from the hotel. The pretty courtyard garden is the ideal spot for welcome drinks if the weather is fair, and these can easily be relocated to the Benson in the event of inclement weather.

Celebrate and stay...
There are 34 individually-designed ensuite bedrooms offering guests a romantic retreat, including a choice of 'bridal suites' for the wedding couple. From contemporary, spacious suites to traditional doubles, every room has been stamped with an eclectic style and the little details that make all the difference. Rooms feature Vi-Spring beds, Frette linen, William Holland copper and zinc baths, power showers, REN products and flat screen TVs.

Food glorious food...
Great food and service is at the heart of a successful celebration, and with an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce on the doorstep, the team of chefs and waiting staff are on hand to deliver exceptional dining throughout the wedding day.

What's more, The George offers a selection of unusual grazing stations for the big day, which include a doughnut wall, a prosecco station and a spectacular oyster station – a tin bath filled with ice, oysters, samphire, lemon wedges and bottles of champagne. Guests also have the option of including a state-of-the-art photo booth which provides a fun add-on to any event.

A beautiful Medieval town...
One of England's best-preserved medieval towns, Rye is a maze of cobbled streets and tiny passage ways. It is home to Henry James' Lamb House, its church is nearly a millennium old, and its former defense, the Ypres Tower, dates from 1250. Rye offers countless magical photo opportunities among the cobbled streets, Tudor buildings, castles and 12th century church yard.

The George's wedding shop was opened on Rye's High Street in 2018 - a beautiful and relaxed environment for couples to come in and discuss their requirements with the wedding coordinator. The hotel shop – The Shop Next Door – stocks many of the gorgeous products to be found within the hotel and offers a wedding gift registry.
